THE FOUR WAY TEST
of the Things We Think, Say and Do

These twenty-four simple words.

What an impact they are having on the world because of Rotary. Penned in a few moments on a raw winter morning in 1932 by Herbert J. Taylor as he contemplated how he could inspire his failing company to surve the Great Depression, these words have been tranlated into over 130 languages. They have been accepted by religious, cultural and philosophical leaders around the world since Herb Taylor dedicated The Four-Way Test to Rotary in 1944.

And this basic moral statement of principles now are inspiring a whole new generation of Rotarians to help develop ethical education programmes through poster, essay and speech contests in schools throughout the Rotary world. What better way to instill positive moral values in our youth?

More on how the District 7620 Four Way Test Speech contest came about.

District Four-Way Test Speech Contest Chairman Albert Kim, Past President of the Rotary Club of Woodlawn-Westview, officiated at the 2001 contest District Semi-Final elimination on Saturday morning, 28th April at Montgomery-Blair High School in Silver Spring. Twenty-one students spoke on subjects of their own choosing before judges from over twenty Rotary clubs to determine which four finalists will speak at the DIstrict Conference in Washington on Saturday, 19th May before Governor Tom Kwako, RI President -Elect Richard King, RI Presidential Representative PDG Jose Sepulveda of Mexico and Rotarians assemble from all over the district from Lexington Park to Frederick to Havre de Grace.

Our Four Outstanding Finalists are:

Hana Colvin, Glen Burnie High School, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Glen Burnie,
Gregory DiComo Catonsville High, Rotary Club of Catonsville
Ram Natarajan Venkatersan of Columbia's Mt. Hebron High School, sponsored by the Rotary Club of Ellicott City Sunrise, and
Lekshmi Santhosh , Dulaney High School, Timonium, Rotary Club of Towson.

Alternates are:

The speeches of the finalists and alternates will be posted as soon as the District Finals have been presented at the District Conference on the 19th of May. Remember, all Rotarians present at the District Conference are judges of the final speeches given by these students. Don't miss it!
