The
Friendship Caravan is a project designed to travel across
America from West to East for one year. The Caravan, to be
comprised of a multi-ethnic, multi-cultural and multi-national
group of camel and Arabian horse riders, is scheduled to begin
Fall, 2003 and continue for one year. The Friendship Caravan is
designed to promote greater understanding between Arabic and
other Muslim communities with selected American towns and cities.
The tour will focus on the heartland of America from the Pacific Coast through the Southwest, the South, the Bible Belt, the MidWest & Industrial Belt, on up into New England and down the Atlantic Coast from Boston through New York and on to Washington.
The object is to provide intensive and meaningful people-to-
people interaction between Muslims, Christians, Jews and peoples
of other religious and cultural backgrounds. Educational and
cultural exhibits, seminars, town meetings and interfaith
religious festivals will be highlighted along with major media
events.
Home hosting by local Americans is an essential component of the project. We expect local Rotary clubs to coordinate local logistics throughout the tour (similar to other Rotary projects such as Youth Exchange, GSE, Rotary Volunteers and Scholar Hosting)
Through the medium of direct person-to-person contact, we
will support development of new and better friendships between
peoples of diverse cultural backgrounds, celebrating our common
goals of peaceful pursuit of prosperity and living in harmony
with our global neighbors.
